Frequently asked questions

I understand you might have questions about your photography session. I've gathered some of the most common ones here to help you feel prepared and excited for your time with Ivy & Wren Photography.

What should I know before my session?

Before your session, I want you to know that it’s going to be relaxed and completely centred around you. There’s no pressure to have perfectly behaved children or to know what you’re doing, that’s my job to gently guide. I’ll help with simple outfit advice, timing, and anything else you’re unsure about, but the most important thing is to come as you are. The more comfortable you feel, the more natural your photos will be.

What happens during the session?

During the session, just focus on being together. You don’t need to look at the camera the whole time or worry about posing “right.” I’ll guide you in a really gentle, natural way, but I’ll also step back and let moments unfold. If little ones need breaks, cuddles, or a wander, that’s absolutely fine, some of the most meaningful images come from those in-between moments. Nothing is rushed, and there’s no expectation for perfection.

What happens after my session?

After your session, I carefully go through your images and edit them in my soft, timeless style, keeping everything true to how it felt.

What if my home isn’t "photo ready"?

Most clients worry their home isn’t “photo ready,” especially with children — but real homes are meant to be lived in. I’m not looking for perfection, I’m looking for light, connection, and feeling. You don’t need a spotless house.
Before a session, I might suggest a quick tidy of the main areas we’ll use (like the living room, bedroom, or nursery), just to keep the focus on you rather than distractions — but that’s it. No deep cleaning, no stress.
I also naturally work around your space, using the best light and angles, and gently moving anything small if needed. It’s all part of the process, and it’s done in a really relaxed, unobtrusive way.
In fact, those lived-in details often make your photos even more meaningful — because they reflect this stage of life exactly as it is.
A home full of toys, blankets, and signs of family life isn’t something to hide — it’s part of your story.

What if my children don’t behave?

This is probably the biggest one — and honestly, it doesn’t matter! Children are naturally curious and energetic, and I embrace that. My style is all about capturing authentic family life, and that includes those unscripted, playful moments. There's no pressure for them to sit still or smile on demand. We'll follow their lead, incorporate breaks, and capture them being themselves. Often, the most cherished images come from these candid, genuine interactions.

The Ivy & Wren difference

What’s really special about the Ivy & Wren experience is how it feels, it’s not just about the final images, it’s about creating a space where you can slow down and just be together.
Everything is designed to feel calm, natural, and unpressured. I don’t run sessions on a tight, rigid structure or expect children to sit still and smile. Instead, I follow your family’s rhythm, allowing moments to unfold naturally. That’s where the real magic is, not in perfect poses, but in genuine connection.
I think what also sets it apart is the level of care throughout the whole experience. From the moment you book, you’re supported — whether that’s help with outfits, choosing the right time of day, or simply reassurance if you’re feeling a bit unsure. You’re never just “booked in and left to it.”
On the day, I bring a really calm, patient energy, which helps everyone relax — especially little ones (and parents too). There’s no pressure to perform, no expectation for everything to go perfectly.
